Some vets want you to come in yearly to get the Canine parvovirus shots and the DHLPP, leptospirosis, parainfluenza, coronavirus, boosters, and a few other shots. However, Just learning about it today, apparently my new vet clinic say's that if your pet is a inside pet all the time and you don't leave it out side through out the day and you take care of the pet for annual exams most of the shots aren't necessary to get yearly. Some shots you will only need every three years. Now, this is coming form a vet clinic that has 5 stars and its a top rated vet clinic. Many people may say "well that is weird, because my vet say's its mandatory to get them yearly unless its the 3 year Rabies."
Well i guess that is why i am blogging my news. According to my vet clinic many clinics do things differently. Some may want to see your pet yearly for the shots and exams and some may only want to do a exam to make sure the pet is healthy and up to great health. I asked why I hadn't heard about this before? They said that many vet's won't tell you this, because they are only looking out for one thing and that is them selves. Or they aren't interested in your opinion only what they think is best and some times they may have a student right out of collage that wants to just get you in there for the vet visit and collect the office visit for the day. That is how most clinic's try to get easy money from pet owners.
Now, when i heard this new's it made my eye brows roll up and i clenched my teeth, because I spent money when i really thought that my pets weren't due for shot's and yet the vet clinic i went to before said they were. Even after i showed them my papers and said it didn't make since they still said it was right that my pets were due to get shots they didn't get before, after going home and looking through the shot records to double check they had already had them and didn't need them until way later. I was really up set about knowing when i changed my vet i was lied to and also had many history papers from being there that weren't up to date or in order on the info either.
This is why i am writing this blog today. I feel like we as pet owners should know these things and be told the truth. If my body wasn't due to get shots or updates on my own personal health and Doctor's and nurses tell you when you can expect them, then why can't vets?
I love my pets like they are my children and i always place their health with my own. If they are sick they go to the vet. If they are not acting right i take care of the issue and make sure they aren't catching something or chewed something they weren't supposed to have.
I think that vet's should have a chart of the shot's placed on a wall and a slip for the owner to take home and after receiving the shot should be able to see when the next shot isn't due till. It's like the only real way of knowing when the shot's are actually due.
If they knew that these shots weren't needed every year they should have told the person, they have the rights to know.
It was very confusing to me and for my pets. That is why in my other blog i posted you have to be careful about the vet you choose and where you go. You never know about the vets and the people taking your pets to see them. Just remember that not all vets are like this, only the ones that have no communication with you when you walk in, and those that don't want to listen to what you are saying when you are asking questions. You have to be careful and use your own judgment.
Ask questions and don't be afraid to ask them the questions either. If they try to make you feel like that is not okay, remind them that you are a paying costumer and if they expect you to remain there and a loyal costumer then they will have no problem answering the questions. If they can't answer the questions the right way, then you should look for a new vet.
I only write this letter today, because of my experience and what happened at the vet clinic i just started going to and the old one i was going to. I hope that my experience helps any one that has any of these issues as well.
As always thanks for checking out my daily blog and if you have had any of these issues and would like to share please leave a comment!
